It’s time to kick the wingers out and replace them with leaders who will fight for progressive values like fairness, freedom and justice. If you want to support good people who will do right by America and advance a progressive agenda, I’d suggest that money contributed to these candidates and organizations is money well spent.

Lois Murphy

PA-06 (Map)

Lois is at the top of my list of candidates to support. I worked for her during the 2004 cycle and saw firsthand that she is a smart, hardworking candidate with the right positions on the issues. Last time around, she was a first-time candidate with zero name recognition, yet she almost knocked off incumbent Republican Jim Gerlach (who took only 51 percent of the vote). Gerlach is a puppet of the Bush administration, and he’s in deep trouble. The tide has shifted and this has become perhaps the most hotly contested congressional race in the nation. Your contribution could help put Lois over the top.

Progressive Patriots Fund

This is Russ Feingold’s PAC. What more do I need to say? The guy has often been a voice in the wilderness on many progressive issues. He’s a leader when many in his party prefer timidity. Help him help good progressive Democrats by contributing here.

Jon Tester

MT-Sen (Map)

John Tester won an overwhelming victory in Montana’s Democratic primary and he has the momentum on his side as he heads toward the general election against scandal-and-gaffe-plagued Conrad Burns. Burns, who was recently caught chewing out hard-working firefighters for being lazy, is among the most unpopular senators in the nation. A Democratic pickup here is essential to hopes to take back the Senate.

Dan Seals

IL-10 (Map)

Word on the ground in Illinois is that Dan Seals is a strong progressive, and he’s running a great campaign. IL-10 is a Democratic district but the current congressman, Republican Mark Kirk, is an ally of President Bush who doesn’t reflect his constituents’ views. If Democrats are going to take back the House, we’re going to have to get rid of Republicans who are representing Democratic districts. Recent independent polling shows that this race is within the margin of error. With your help, we will win this seat in what appears to be shaping up as a tidal wave election for Democrats.

Image of Leonard Boswell

Leonard Boswell

IA-03 (Map)

I worked for Congressman Boswell in 2002, and after an easy reelection campaign in 2004, he needs our help this time around. Congressman Boswell is a humble war hero who has represented his district well. He has also refused to get caught up in wedge issue politics and has stood up for the rights of women, racial minorities, and LGBT Americans. Boswell’s wealthy, self-financed challenger is the current Republican leader in the Iowa Senate, and Republican swift-boat style attacks have already begun. If we’re going to take back the House, we need to successfully defend the few vulnerable Democratic seats that remain, and this is a great place to start.

Image of Sherrod Brown

Sherrod Brown

OH-Sen (Map)

Recent polling in Ohio has Sherrod Brown leading incumbent Mike DeWine. DeWine has never formed a strong connection with the people of Ohio, and it’d be great to replace him with the very progressive Brown—plus, it’d bring us one step closer to making Harry Reid the new majority leader, even if we have to wait until 2008 for the last few seats to shift parties.

Image of Larry Grant

Larry Grant

ID-01 (Map)

This is another one of those tidal-wave seats. Larry Grant is a Democrat running in a highly Republican (+19 R) Idaho district, but he’s good a good shot of winning this seat if the national climate remains friendly. The biggest thing Grant has going for him is that his opponent, Republican State Rep. Bill Sali, is a real turkey. Sali’s antagonistic political style has alienated many prominent Republicans who are now refusing to support him. Sali’s far-right ideology is extreme, and his biggest backer is the Club for Growth. He might just be too far to the right for even Idaho. Grant is running a smart campaign with support from Democrats and Republicans, and he could put your contribution to good use.

Mazie Hirono

HI-02 (Map)

Mazie’s a great progressive candidate running to represent Hawaii’s open congressional seat. She’s the state’s former lieutenant governor, and she comes highly recommended by my friends Ary and Julie. She just won a squeaker of a 10-way Democratic primary, and now she could use your support gathering resources for the general election.

Image of James Webb

James Webb

VA-Sen (Map)

George Allen’s “macaca” gaffe and the subsequent questions that have arisen about his racial views have made this a real race. Virginia’s my home state, and it’s trending blue. Kicking the embarassing George Allen out of the Senate and replacing him with a fighter like James Webb would be an excellent way to accelerate the trend.
