Congresswoman Boyda believes it is wrong for intelligence agencies to spy on Americans without a warrant – but Republicans want the authority to do just that. They want President Bush to be able to ignore checks and balances by eliminating meaningful court oversight of intelligence gathering under FISA.

As Congresswoman Boyda said herself in an op-ed in the Ottawa Herald last weekend, “Please know that, as your representative in Congress, I will vote for a strong FISA bill that protects America while preserving our historic system of checks and balances. Defending America is our nation’s number on priority. There’s just no reason to throw out the Constitution to do it.”
