Erwin Chemerinsky is the founding dean and distinguished professor of law at the University of California, Irvine School of Law, with a joint appointment in Political Science.
Dean Chemerinsky is one of the Nationâs leading Constitutional Law scholars. His clarion calls for reasonable Constitutional interpretations that will protect Americansâ civil rights are particularly relevant in 2013, when the Supreme Court is hearing a challenge to the Voting Rights Act, and is hearing marriage equality cases.
Dean Chemerinsky has written nearly 200 scholarly articles, many law school case books, and a brilliant popular book, The Conservative Assault on the Constitution.
Before coming to UCI, Dean Chemerinsky taught at Duke Law School, where he was awarded the Duke University Scholar-Teacher of the Year Award. Before that he taught for 21 years at the University of Southern Californiaâs Gould School of Law, and he served for four years as Director of the Center for Communications Law and Policy. Chemerinsky has also taught at UCLA School of Law and DePaul University College of Law.
