I know you are wondering why you are getting a plea for a contribution to Congressman Jerry McNerney. You are probably asking yourself, “didn’t we already get him elected in 2006 and decisively trounce the Repub incumbent opponent, Richard Pombo, and isn’t Congressman McNerney safely ensconced in his House seat?”
The answer is Yes and No.
While we did unseat the infamous Richard Pombo, anti-Christ of the Environment, we had to leave Congressman McNerney to a district that has leaned heavily Republican for decades and is just now starting to turn a light shade of Purple. Unfortunately that means Jerry McNerney is still vulnerable to Republican challengers. Today, McNerney is squarely in the crosshairs of the RNC and they already have a candidate to challenge him in November.
