Dr. Herbert “Herb” Conaway is a highly educated professional with extensive experience in medicine, law, and politics. He received his undergraduate degree from Princeton, his M.D. from Jefferson Medical College and also holds a Law degree from Rutgers.


After completing his education, Dr. Conaway served in the U.S. Air Force, where he achieved the rank of Captain in the Medical Corps at McGuire Air Force Base and served as a general medical officer. He rose to the position of assistant director of the primary care clinic during his four-year service


Following his military service, Dr. Conaway completed an internal medicine residency, practiced primary care medicine, and worked as a clinical professor in an inner-city, community hospital, teaching future physicians


Dr. Conaway has been serving as an Assemblyman for New Jersey's 7th Legislative District for 25 years.


Dr. Conaway is a lifelong resident of Burlington County, New Jersey. His desire to serve his community was shaped by his parents, a teacher and a nurse.


While in the New Jersey Legislature, Dr. Conaway

  •  Played a leading role in passing New Jersey's most significant health laws
  •  Sponsored New Jersey's school funding formula
  •  Increased fiscal accountability within school districts
  •  Added technology to core curriculum standards
  •  Modernized nutritional standards in public schools
  •  Sponsored successful legislation on environmental protection, property tax relief, veterans services, and public safety


Key Issues:

  • Economy: Advocates for lessening the tax burden on middle-class families, protecting small businesses, and bringing more job opportunities to NJ-03. Supports expanding the Child Tax Credit and the state and local tax (SALT) deduction.
  • Reproductive Rights: Strongly supports codifying Roe v. Wade into national law and strengthening women's healthcare rights.
  • Democracy Protection: Supports the John Lewis Voting Rights Act and efforts to strengthen voting rights. Advocates for establishing Election Day as a federal holiday.
  • Healthcare: Aims to lower prescription drug prices and supports efforts to cap costs for life-saving medications at the national level.
  • Environment: Endorses policies aimed at environmental security, including funding research for sustainable practices and supporting legislation to expand access to electric vehicle charging infrastructure.


Dr. Conaway's diverse background in medicine, law, and politics, combined with his long-standing commitment to public service, positions him as a knowledgeable and experienced candidate for the Congressional race in NJ-03.
