Previously, Laura Kelly was a Kansas state Senator, since 2004, focused on getting things done. Since 2006, she has served as the Ranking Minority member of the Ways and Means Committee, advocating for fiscal responsibility, balanced budget.

Laura Kelly grew up in a career military family where she learned the importance of service, integrity and accountability. She has made it her life’s work to fight for children and families on the job, in her community, and as a four-term state senator.

Laura Kelly is a strong advocate for children and families. She has prior work experience of working with kids with disabilities and learning disadvantages.

Laura and her husband Ted Daughety (a doctor of pulmonary and sleep disorders) live in Topeka KS. They have two grown daughters.

Laura Kelly is a strong Democratic candidate who has made a reputation in KS as someone who is focused on pragmatic politics.
